B.A. Islamic Studies
B.A. Islamic Studies is a four–year undergraduate programme offered by Iconic University. This programme has been splited into four speciaizations of General Islamic Studies, Qur’anic Science, Hadith Science and Shari’ah. The programme provides a comprehensive understanding of Islamic culture, history, and philosophy. It also covers topics such as the Qur‘an and Hadith, Islamic Law, Islamic art and architecture, political and economic thought, Islamic spirituality, and Islamic civilization. The programme aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become knowledgeable and effective members of society and work towards the promotion of Islamic values. The programme focuses on developing the critical thinking, analytical and research skills of students, enabling them to engage with issues of contemporary relevance.
The Bachelor of Art in Islamic Studies is designed to:
- acquaint the learner with the broad outlines of Islam as a religion and a way of life;
- increase the learner’s capacity and understanding of Islam as a culture and civilization;
- present Islam to the learner in its original sources;
- sustain rigorous academic research in all issues affecting Islam and Muslims in the contemporary period;
- place Islam in the context of other world religious traditions (with emphasis on the traditions practiced Nigeria);
- produce graduates with competences to undertake postgraduate studies in the field;
- provide the requisite human capital for the civil service; government ministries, departments, agencies, the judiciary, foreign service, etc;
- develop an appreciation of Islamic thought and practice and its contributions to the advancement of human development and civilisation, and
- deploy religion as an instrument for the promotion of peace, harmony, and development in the society.
The Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies with Specialization in General Islamic Studies at Iconic University provides students with a comprehensive understanding of Islam and its principles. This programme combines both traditional and contemporary approaches to Islamic studies, equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to critically analyze and interpret the religious texts and teachings. Students will also gain a broad understanding of the historical, social, and political aspects of Islam, as well as exploring the role of Islam in the modern world. Graduates of this program will be able to apply their knowledge in various fields, including education, research, and community development.
The B.A. Islamic Studies with specialization in Qur‘anic Science (Ulumu Al-Qur‘an) programme of Iconic University is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the Qur‘an and its sciences through a combination of academic courses and experiential learning. Students will explore the linguistic, tafsir, ruwayat, historical, and literary context of the Qur’an, as well as its interpretation through various methodologies. With a particular focus on the sciences of the Qur’an, students will also delve into the intricacies of its text, structure, and themes. In addition, the programme offers a unique opportunity for students to participate in a residency semester at one of our campuses or study centres at the 300/400 level, providing a firsthand experience of studying in a diverse and international environment. Graduates of this programme will be equipped with a strong foundation in both Islamic studies and Qur’anic sciences, preparing them for a variety of careers in academia, religious leadership, and other fields.
The B.A. Islamic Studies with specialization in Hadith Science (Usul Al-Hadith) programme at Iconic University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and methodology of Hadith Sciences. Through a detailed study of the historical development of Hadith literature, the six books of Hadith, students will gain a deeper insight into the authentic sayings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The programme also offers a unique opportunity for students to participate in a residency semester at one of our campuses or study centres during their 300/400 level, allowing them to immerse themselves in an interactive learning environment and further enhance their knowledge and understanding of the subject. This programme is ideal for those seeking a deeper understanding of Islam and its teachings, particularly in the area of Hadith Sciences.
The B.A. Islamic Studies with specialization in Shari‘ah programme at Iconic University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, teachings and practices of Islam, with a focus on the Shari’ah, or Islamic law. This programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to critically analyze and interpret Islamic texts, traditions and legal rulings. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the historical, cultural and social contexts of Islamic law, as well as its contemporary applications. With a diverse range of courses and experienced faculty members, this programme offers a well-rounded education in Islamic studies, preparing students for careers in academia, law, government, non-profit organizations, and more.
B.A. Islamic Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study focused on the Islamic religion, culture, and history. It is an ideal degree programme for those interested in exploring the complexities of the Islamic faith and gaining a deeper understanding of the religion‘s influence on the world. Admission into Iconic University for bachelor’s degree does not require JAMB result, but candidate will be asked to get a JAMB regularization number upon successful admission in order to be used for his/her NYSC at the time of graduation.
- 100 Level (Freshman)
- Five (5) credit passes in WAEC, NECO, NBAIS, or similar bodies as recognised. The credit passes must include English Language, Arabic Language and Islamic Studies, and at least a pass in Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
- Five (5) merits in NABTEB or Teachers Grade Two examinations in Arts or Social Science subjects. Also, the credit passes must include English Language, Arabic Language and/or Islamic Studies, and at least a pass in Mathematics.
- Senior Islamic Studies Certificate (SISC) or Higher Muslim Studies Certificate (HMSC) or Higher Islamic Studies Certificate (HISC) with five credits in Arabic, Islamic Studies and any other three subjects including a pass in English Language.
- 200 Level (Sophomores)
- The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with a merit pass in English Language in addition to a credit pass in Arabic/Islamic Studies.
- National Diploma (ND) in Arabic and/or Islamic Studies from reputable institutions with a minimum of Lower Credit.
- GCE Advance level with at least two credit passes.
- OND with evidence of proficiency in Arabic and/or Islamic Studies.
- Certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies or the equivalent from a recognised university in addition to three O’ Level papers in Arts or Social Sciences, including credit pass in English Language and Mathematics.
- First degree (B.A.) in Arabic or Shari’ah Law
Iconic University charges modest fees that give learners the chance to pay per semester only. Nigerian candidates seeking admission will pay an application fee of N10,000 and $30 would be paid by international applicants.
