B.A. Arabic Language

The B.A. Arabic Language programme at Iconic University is designed to provide students with an indepth knowledge and understanding of the Arabic language and its associated culture. The programme provides students with the opportunity to learn all aspects of the language, including its history, grammar, literature and writing systems. Students can explore the various dialects of the language and learn the fundamentals of Modern Standard Arabic. In addition, they can study the impact of the language on politics, economics and social life in the Middle East and beyond. Through the programme, students can develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing in the language. The course culminates in a comprehensive examination that tests the student‘s knowledge and skills in the language.

The objectives of the B.A. Arabic Language are to;

  1. Introduce students to the phonology and script of classical/modern standard Arabic and cover the basic morphology and syntax of the written language with emphasis on the development of the four skills (reading, speaking, listening and writing).Samples of modern (contemporary) and classical styles of writing are introduced into basic syllabus, and so are audio-visual materials from the contemporary Arabic media;
  2. Undertake thorough review and continuation of literary (classic and modern) Arabic grammar with emphasis on reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension;
  3. Acquaint the learner through reading of classical Islamic texts, with emphasis on Qur’ān, Hadîth, Sira, and Tafsir Literature; the corpus of “Adab” (Belles-Lettres) literature, as well as various pieces of classical Arabic poetry;
  4. Produce graduates conversant with contemporary political, social, religious, and cultural issues in the Arab world. This is inclusive of advanced reading and speaking skills, with some attention to writing and listening comprehension; and
  5. Enhance the capacity of the learner.

Careers in B.A. Arabic Language are varied and include teaching, translation, and research. Those with this degree may work as foreign language professors and instructors, teach in primary and secondary school settings, or work in government or media settings as a translator or interpreter. Those pursuing a research career may work in academia, government, or nonprofit organizations. 

A B.A. in Arabic Language also provides a foundation for graduate studies in the field. Those who pursue a masters or doctorate degree in Arabic can expect to be highly sought after in research and education, as well as in the translation and interpretation fields. Overall, a B.A. in Arabic Language is an excellent choice for those interested in exploring the language, culture, and history of the Middle East. It provides a strong foundation for a variety of career paths, including teaching and research.

Admission into Iconic University for bachelor’s degree does not require JAMB result but candidates will be asked to get a JAMB regularisation number upon successful admission in order to be used for his/her NYSC at the time of graduation.  

Note: Admission for B.A. Arabic Language is available only for 100 level now.

  • 100 Level (Freshman)
  1. Five (5) credit passes in WAEC, NECO, NBAIS, or similar bodies as recognised. The credit passes must include English Language, Arabic Language and/or Islamic Studies, and at least a pass in Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
  2. Five (5) merits in NABTEB or Teachers Grade Two examinations in Arts or Social Science subjects. Also, the credit passes must include English Language, Arabic Language and/or Islamic Studies, and at least a pass in Mathematics.
  • 200 Level (Sophomores)
  1. The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with a merit pass in English Language in addition to a credit pass in Arabic/Islamic Studies.
  2. National Diploma (ND) in Arabic and/or Islamic Studies from reputable institutions with a minimum of Lower Credit.
  3. GCE Advance level with at least two credit passes.
  4. OND with evidence of proficiency in Arabic and/or Islamic Studies.
  5. Certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies or the equivalent from a recognized university in addition to three O’ Level papers in Arts or Social Sciences, including credit pass in English Language and Mathematics. 
  6. First degree (B.A.) in Islamic Studies or Shari’ah Law.

Iconic University charges modest fees that give learners the chance to pay per semester only. Nigerian candidates seeking admission will pay an application fee of N10,000 and $30 would be paid by international applicants.
