B.Sc. Accounting

B.Sc. Accounting is a four-year undergraduate programme designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of accounting. The programme covers the fundamentals of financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation, auditing, and financial management. A B.Sc. Accounting student will learn how to analyze and interpret financial data, use accounting software, and develop effective financial management techniques. Upon graduation, students may pursue a career in public accounting, private accounting, or financial management.

The major objectives of a bachelor’s degree programme in accounting are to:

  1. produce high level accounting personnel that can contribute to the development of accounting practice through research and publications;
  2. provide basic knowledge and skills needed for the understanding and analysis of problems relating to accounting in the management of industries, commercial ventures, public enterprises, and other human organizations;
  3. equip students with knowledge and skills for decision making, especially the analytical skills needed for recognizing, defining, and solving problems, data collection i.e. especially data gathering and analytical skills;
  4. develop in students, leadership and interpersonal relations skills in accounting/management;
  5. provide training aimed at improving and upgrading the existing and potential manpower needed for national development; and
  6. develop in students’ entrepreneurial skills and competencies to adequately prepare them to be innovative in creating accounting jobs especially in this era of technological advancement and progression.

A Bachelor of Science in Accounting is an excellent choice for those seeking a career in the field of accounting. With this degree, graduates have the opportunity to work in a variety of different settings, including public and private accounting firms, government agencies, and corporate settings. Accountants are responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements, monitoring financial transactions, and preparing tax returns. 

They also may be involved in budgeting, creating financial forecasts, and analyzing financial data. Accountants often advise their clients on financial matters and help them make decisions on how to best manage their money. Those with a B.Sc. in Accounting can pursue a number of career paths. Some may choose to work as Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), who are responsible for auditing and preparing financial reports for companies. Others may choose to work as financial analysts, providing research and analysis to investors or companies. Additionally, many B.Sc. Accounting graduates are employed in the banking, insurance, or government sectors.

Admission into Iconic University for bachelor’s degree does not require JAMB result, but candidates will be asked to get a JAMB regularisation number upon successful admission in order to be used for his/her NYSC at the time of graduation.  

  • 100 Level (Freshman)
  1. Five (5) credit passes in WAEC, NECO, NBAIS, or similar bodies as recognized. The credit passes must include English Language,  and Mathematics, with any other three (3) from Principles of Accounting, Commerce, Economics and any other relevant WAEC/NECO commercial subjects at not more than two sittings.
  2. Five (5) merits in NABTEB or Teachers Grade Two examinations in Management or Social Science subjects. Also, the credit passes must include English Language, and Mathematics.
  • 200 Level (Sophomores)
  1. The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with a merit pass in English Language in addition to a credit pass in Economics/Accounting/Business Admin/Public Admin.
  2. National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting/Banking and Finance/Insurance/Taxation/Actuarial Science from reputable institutions with a minimum of Lower Credit.
  3. GCE Advance level with at least two credit passes.
  4. OND with evidence of proficiency in Accounting/Banking and Finance.
  5. Certificate in Accounting or the equivalent from a recognized professional body or University in addition to three O’ Level papers in Management or Social Sciences, including credit pass in English Language, and Mathematics. 
  6. First degree (B.Sc.) in Taxation, Business Admin, Public Admin, Entrepreneurship, or Economics. 

Iconic University charges modest fees that give learners the chance to pay per semester only. Nigerian candidates seeking admission will pay an application fee of N10,000 and $30 would be paid by international applicants.
